Machining

In order to optimize the dimensional and qualitative features of the finished product, it is always recommended to proceed, after the sintering process, with the finishing or shaping of the desired piece; to do that there are some procedures (listed below) that we can make for you:

GRINDING

Grinding

The grinding of HM pieces, obtained through special diamond wheels, is the machining that enables the best finishing grade of a product and consequently its longer working life.

For a better performance, it is necessary both to choose the most suitable grinding wheel (for more precise finishing and so for a better quality of the finished piece, grinders with high concentration of diamond grains are fundamental) and to use properly the coolant fluid (the piece has to be constantly refrigerated and as close as possible to the point where the heat produced is higher).

A correct grinding removes all the tensions that may have been generated within the upper layers of carbide and that can negatively affect the resistance of the piece during the working stage.

WIRE EDM

EDM (Electro Discharge Machining) is a machining that uses the erosive features of electrical discharges: an electricity conductor, in this case tungsten carbide, is dipped in a dielectric fluid, water in case of wire EDM. With the aid of a profiling tool (brass or copper wire), a high frequency exchange of power is produced between the two of them, generating a voltaic discharge that allows to shape the desired profile, according to pre-settled parameters.

Polishing

To obtain mechanical particulars with “mirror” surface and minimize roughness, it is necessary to proceed with a polishing process.

SHARPENING

An appropriate maintenance of the HM tool increases its working life. For example, re-sharpening the parts as soon as the cutting thread loses its efficacy prevents from the risk of sudden breakages forming and the piece can be reconditioned.

Braze welding consists in linking together metallic pieces with the aid of a deposit metal (silver alloy) without melting the pieces that have to be assembled. The deposit metal pierces into the pieces that have to be assembled.

 

 

 

TURNING

Turned pieces

Turning is an industrial production process obtained by chips removal. The piece rotates, while the tool that works it has a mostly straight motion (in milling and drilling, on the contrary, the tool has a rotatory motion). The cutting edge of the tool pierces into the material of the piece and removes the unwanted parts (surplus metal) forming a chip.

To increase further the working life of the cutting edges and the chip flowability, it is then possible to go on with a coating procedure: the particular is coated with material of different kinds; this way this solid substrate raises the HM hardness.

MILLING

Milling is a cold machining for chip removal, operated by a tool that rotates around its axle on a piece distinguished by an advancing motion. To obtain the finished piece it is necessary that this could be inscribed in the starting piece from which the surplus metal will be removed.
